Light Or Darkness

It is interesting that God created light three days before He created the sun, moon and stars. It is also interesting that He will be the light of Heaven and that there will be no need of the sun and moon. Nothing in the Bible says that the sun and moon will even exist or be needed in the glorious future.

Genesis 1:3-5: And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Genesis 1:16-19: And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Revelation 21:10, 23: And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

God is light. Light is the work of God and light indicates the presence of God. Light is a type of Heaven.

1 John 1:5: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Darkness causes depression. It is oppressive. It is a heavy burden. Suicide rates increase in the long dark winters near the North Pole. We can get cabin fever from not having enough light. We do not function as well in darkness. Darkness cannot exist in the presence of light. Light drives darkness away. Light overpowers darkness. Without light we might as well be blind. Without spiritual light we are spiritually blind. Darkness is a picture of the absence of God and a picture of judgment and Hell.

Jude 1:4a, 13b: For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, 13b to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

Matthew 25:30: And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Any kind of light is a type of God. Light is a picture of the presence of God. Light is uplifting. Light is a blessing. Light makes vision possible. God created light. Light rules over darkness. Light is promised as long as this world lasts. Light is promised for ever in heaven. God Himself will be the light of heaven. When we receive Christ we choose light over darkness. Every mortal man must make that choice. Even after one becomes a believer, he should continue to choose light.

John 3:19: And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Acts 26:16a, 18a: But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins,
